Painting Critique
Well it is official according to the dimwits at art college - I can't paint!!
I had my critique on Tuesday and it went just the way I expected it to. They have not liked my work from the get go. When i was explaining my idea, they were like "Interesting". Then I showed them some of the studies that I have been doing and they did not like them that much. Well, one teacher thought that they were good. The other was like- yuck!!!
So then it came to critique and the people who had gone before me were getting amazing critiques and some of them deserved them - others did not - so I thought that maybe she was in a good mood. Then they said they would do mine.
GREAT!!!!........................................................NOT!!!!!
So here we go....I read my artists statement which tells them what it is all about. They looked at the body of work that i had done and pretty much said that it was not successful. They told me that the smaller figure in the background was comical, that the face in the foreground does not work and should not be there and I would have been better to place it on another canvas or done two more with them either side of the long canvas.
They said that it would have been better maybe to paint a scarecrow instead of the small figure in the background and that is it.
In other words....It would have been better if I did another painting entirely!!
Then she said"you haven't painted bfore have you?"
I corrected her and yes "ah, yes"
then she said that she thought I had told her that I have not painted before.
Little does she know that I have sold work before so.......
But there you have it!!!
Afterward, a lot of the people I go to college with told me that they liked the work and did not know what the hell they were going on about.
I suppose I expected it and really when it comes down to it I am not going there for painting, I am going there for Gold and silversmithing as I know what I want to paint and how I want to paint it, so they can go a shove it where the sun don't shine!!!
