Museum of Brisbane

I applied for the graduate jeweller position with the Museum of Brisbane recently and just found out that I got it!! Yay! What does this mean I hear you say! Well, it means that I go into MOB every Friday to work in their workshop for the next 6 months and gain soem serious professional practice skills and connections. I am hoping to organise an exhibition at the completion of the residency to display all my work that I have made for my proposed project.
My project will incorporate looking at the news and various media to see how this effects me and creating a retrospective of the previous six months (by the time the show happens).
But for now I am getting prepared for the next six months or so as well as trying to get ready for a show that i am having at KILN gallery in Paddington from the 25th of April!
There is a lot happening but it is all good.

well it has been a long time foo me to post anything here and it has probably been a long time for anyone to have read anything or looked at amything on this site either. It is becoming more difficult as I now have another web page that I update more regularly, or will be updating more regularly as it has my name and images of my jewellery. www.dancox.com.au is the site to visit and it will meake it a lot easier to keep track of things that i m up to. of course I will keep this one up and happening still for friends and family that are still wanting to find out the non professional things that are happening in my life, but I cannot guarantee that i will have this updated all the time!
until next time......

Long time no hear from !!

I know I have been really slack in keeping this up and running and honestly, it took me a while to get in as I had to reset my password and all!!
There has been a lot happening between assignments, sewing for a uni production and organizing exhibitions. This is a crazy year!
Why is there always so much to do and so little time to do it in?

You know, I was doing a Myspace also and to be honest, I really do prefer this. The MYspace is more for my art work and a less personal thing than this. At least here I can tell you all about different things that are going on in my life and give you all the goss, unlike there as I am using it as a temporary web page for my work...although it does not look that porfessional and I am not that happy with the way it works!

Well, I will leave it there. I have to go an buy some silver and stuff to get things ready for the southbank markets, no to mention that I also have to start work on my assignment that is due on Monday! It was due Friday but now I have a couple of days to finalise it!
There is just too much happening at the moment!

It is amazing the inspiration you get from beautiful imagery.
Even from beautiful lyrics, or those spoken or written in a novel.

Words can be so powerful, but they have to be said in the right context, with the right inflections and tone.

Expressing ones emotions in the written word has always been something that has intregued me.

As an actor, finding the meanings in the words and where to emphasise the emotions can either make or break the tension and make a performance successful.

I recently had a bit of insite into this process when I stood in for an audition for a part that I was also going for.

The person who was auditioning for the part played the character with a literal representation. In other words they did not look at the subtext, nor look for the mood of the whole play and see that there was much more depth for the character.

I sometimes feel that i have tapped into this creative steak of mine just at the right time, although I do worry where it would be leading to. For the moment I try to focus on where it currently has me at the moment, but there is always that niggling thought of where it will take me.

I don't leave things up to fate too well at times and I feel that I need to take control of the direction when I have the chance.

In looking at where I am now though, life is pretty good. Maybe when you get older you realise just what you are able to do and you are not as affraid of trying new things and experiencing as much as you can.

Or is it a matter of making that you philosophy and therefore you convince yourself that you have to experience new things to make yourself feel as though you are progressing?

New Transport

Here is the intorduction of my new transport!

His name is Vinni - or Vincenzo.

He is a Vmoto Montego 125cc scooter!

He goes ike a rocket and is so cheap to fill!!

I have not run him until he is drained of petrol yet but that will come no doubt! I always think that he needs petrol and he still has about 1.5 litres left in the tank!!

Crazy!!!

He is such a pleasure to ride and I love going whereever I like. I know I can afford the petrol!!

Anniversary

Well Alex and I had our two year anniversay on the 15th, but the celebrate we ended up going to Oreily's guest house at Lamington National Park!

Lovely spot as the mist started to roll in and envelop the mountain.

It was a very romantic setting although you cannot book a table for lunch or dinner or breakfast as you may have to share with someone else if the other tables that you were after are not available. In other words, if there are two of you and there are no tables of two then you have to share with either another couple or you are placed on a larger table and may be sharing with a family or a group of people from smaller groups. It is to promote communication between strangers. The good thing up there is that they have no televisions and no telephones in the rooms either!

Nice! But I suppoe when you go there the last thing you are really wanting to do is a session in front of the television. There are plenty of walks and the like that can keep you occupied. Like the one that Alex and I did that goes up the tallest tree climb! Not very good for people who do not like heights at all! A bit of a challenge to get Alex up there and he did not like the climb to the second platform as you are leaning backwards as you are climbing upwards. There is a cage around you though so that is okay!

But once up there I think he enjoyed the view! I ended up leaving him up there! Maybe it was a case of his fear for coming down being greater than that of getting up there???

There is also the chance to feed the birds when you are up there and as this was not something that Alex particularly wanted to do I thought that I would go by myself and have a look. The good ting with this is that you don't really have to have bird seed in you hand to be able to "feed" the birds. They will come to you quite willingly without there being any seed in your hand, just to check out if you do have any intention of feeding them.

When I was there, there was this little girl and her brother who decided that they would show off to me the birds that they had hanging arouond them eating their seed! Each kid would have been no higher than a meter but they had about several large birds hanging from them as well as sitting on their heads!

Crazy! So I thought that I would take a photo of the bird that was on the little girls hand, eating the seed she had been feeding them. Yes, well, did not really want to take a photo of the girl as I did not know her or how her parents would react to the photo and it was the birds that i was originally going for in any case.

Ah! Lovely!

On the way back home the following day, Alex wanted to go on a walk, so we went to Moran Falls. 4. something kms later and we reach the falls that Alex so wanted to see...So here is the photo -:

So there you are!! But here are a few other photos that I took and Alex may have taken along the way.

Oh and there is one for Tarnya !! Can you guess which one it is???
