It has been a while since I have placed photos of my work up so I thought that I should show you all the piece that I have been working on since my holidays started. This is for the Momento Awards. This is an award organised by Tourism Australia and is designed to give tourists pieces that are original and Australian, as well as allow artists to get their work out there in the bigger markets.
My piece is designed around the Australian Emerald Dragonfly, which is a native species that covers most of Australia, apart from the Northern Territory - strangely enough!!
It is made out of silver and should retail for about $300 if I was to sell it myself, but I am not sure how much they will sell it for if they take it on......Some people may recognise this piece from the copper one that i have made, but I have finished this one better and the middle layer ( which is the one with the fillagry work on it) is a different design.
If they take it on then I will have to look at ways of mass producing it ....but that is now me getting too far ahead of myself. But, we will see what happens!
This one is the bowl that I made for the previous project before the holidays. The theme for this was ritual, so I made a rice bowl and chop sticks to go with them to represent the dinners that Alex and I have each week with our friends Justin and Michael at Yee Foongs in the Valley. The pattination on the surface was meant to turn out completely different from the way it has here, but the blue colour is a happy accident.....I will have to try and replicate this in some other works that i am going to do this holidays.
