Holidays...what holidays!!!

I know that most of you think that university is a bludge and that there are a lot of holidays and there are, but I have not had the time to bludge. I am furiously trying to get an assignment done as well as get organiseed with work with OAMPS Warranties and trying to get commissions finished as well as get my sculpture and intermedia finished all in the one week and this is not happening. Obviously the assignment is the most important and I think there will be a few late nights happening as I am finding it hard to get journals on Francis Bacon so .....
But I will just have to keep at it all and get it done then focus on the rest. I can't wait unitl Paul and Martin come back so then I can settle into more of a routine.
I started with OAMPS today and that is going really well. I like the job and it is not hard work which is good. I think that i will be able to pick it up quite quickly...well I have already been entering in claims and that was from today for my first day and I have also spoken to a few customers....So I am not that worried. It is actually good having that going now as I was losing focus on what I know and entering into this big mess of university and trying to adjust to that..I think this will make me feel safe and secure rather than have everything up in the air.
So this is just a quick one to let you know that all is well and I will write more when I have it all under control...Just have the assignment to do...Tests are so much more interesting and more fun too!!
Oh well

I have used a fabric that I have had for a while and painted into it as well as using bamboo and chop sticks...also some coin from a chinese decoration that fell apart....I still don't know what to call her and have yet to sign it. Posted by Hello

The painting will be auctioned and the money will go to the Starlight Foundation for making a wish come true for some child that has life threatening illness. Posted by Hello

This is a painting that I have just finished for the Lynda Roberts Foundation fundraising evening that will be happening soon. I have to give the painting to them on the 18th of this month. The light is not that good so you don't get the full depth of colour...maybe when it dries a bit more I can take another photo of it or I will wait until daylight and take a photo of it then....the colour should show up more.  Posted by Hello

we are also doing mould or mold work. This is the begining of a two piece that will eventually be able to have plaster poured into the mould and create a solid figure. Posted by Hello

working with the paper and the images that you have just developed, you are able to create a new work using this original image as a basis for the new work. Posted by Hello

I was walking home the other day and there were all these dummies and locks on this fence so I thought that I would have to take a photo of it...rather strange!!! Posted by Hello

we did an experiment today with light sensitive paper. You place the paper under objects that make differing shaddows and place it in the sunlight. You then use a developer to develop the image and you get some really good effects with the length of exposure. It is all unpredictable and you have to take some time in getting it all to work the way you want it. You can either make a work from the image that you have or do a lot of images and that becomes your work. Posted by Hello

Are they not cute!!! I am doing a sculpture piece about politics in place and I have selected the pond at Southbank to do it on. Walking around the pond I came across this family of ducks. The ducklings are only a few weeks old by the looks of them Posted by Hello

It all starts now.

Well everyone, I am officially in my first week of university.
I have had my first lecture and also my first tute which were not in great depth but they were still there and gave me some idea of what I will be in for.
At the moment I am on a day off but have decided to come to the university to complete a mould that I am making but the sculpture studion appears to be closed up!! Maybe because it is out of supervised hours....mmmm....So I have decided to come into the computer area and work on my blog for a bit before I try and track down a lecturer that I have been trying to find....They may not be here today that's all and may be on the coast as it is Wednesday!!
Makes it hard.
I am having my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow.
That should be fun!!!
Not!!
But it is better to get it all out of the way as soon as possible .
I will be happy, I suppose, a week from now when it is all over and I don't have the pain or the swelling anymore...
Back to the salt water mouth wash!!! Joy!!
I am going to Alex's place tonight for the last supper before I have all the teeth extracted.
We are having roast I believe...And maybe a few drinks with Phil and Tracey....We will see....

I have been working on a sculpture/intermedia piece that we have to have constructed in 7 weeks and has to be focused around politics of place. We were told to select an area of Southbank to work with and have to develop the work around this area.
I have chosen the pond which was constructed after Expo88. I do not believe that it was around during that time. I have done a little research into the area and note that the natural environment was Mangroves.
I thought that I would construct a feather out of wood that I could bend to look like a feather. The only difference is that I only want to do a skeletal impression of the feather. This would demonstrate a man made environment. It would symbolise man manufacturing nature.
This feather would be suspended depending on the size of the feather. It would be floating above a resin mould of a feather floating on water which would represent the pond. This resin mould will have a light that shines though it and up to the feather constructed out of wood.
I would then use the feathers that I have started to collect and the reed, or at least fake reed that I find, and use this in a swirling motion around the resing sculpture to represent ripples of water.
Within the reeds and feathers I though that I may have words that represent the history of the area and the species of animals that live in there.
The feather will represent also the more dominant species of bird that dominate this particular area of the park then the lesser species around in the ripples.
I hope to demonstrate a demographical representation of the animals that live in this area and their own "political" structure.
I don't want to make it too complicated visually but it will have to represent the species that occupy the area and also show some history.
I will be able to use photos and sound as well but with the photos I thought that I would cut them into the shapes of feathers that can then be used in the reeds.
I have already made some recordings of the area. Woke up at 4 this morning and come done to southbank to record the pond and the birds waking. I have then done more recordings around the pond to get other bird noises at a later time and all I need to do is get a recording of the evening time.
I would like to have recordings that don't have people in it but this would also distracted from the point of view I have taken. After all, this is an artificial environment and having people walk through it is a perfect representation of bringing nature to the people rather than people going to the nature.
There is a lot to consider and this is only the one subject...But I have a lot that I want to achieve with this one as it is my first. I want to achieve the best result with everything I do but I really want this one to work and not look like it was something created for a year 12 subject.
My art have to start looking professional if I want to achieve the best possible result.
Not that I think my previous works have taken the look of a year 12 project, but there is always room for improvement.
